Gibson USA Derek Trucks SG
Derek Trucks weapon of choice is a Gibson SG Standard. The Gibson USA Derek Trucks SG Guitar is based around the 1961 SG modified & built to Derek’s preferred specs for an amazing playing, sounding & feeling instrument & finished in a gorgeous Heritage Cherry.
Over the past twenty years, Derek Trucks has evolved from child prodigy to one of the most influential and respected blues guitarists today. Founder of the Grammy Award winning, Derek Trucks Band, Derek is also an official member of the Allman Brothers Band and formed the Tedeschi/Trucks Band in 2010 with his wife Susan Tedeschi.
Built from the finest tone woods, and loaded with two of Gibson’s most authentic PAF-style humbucking pickups, The Gibson USA Derek Trucks SG starts with the finest tone woods. The body and neck are made from Grade A Mahogany and finished in high-gloss Nitrocellulose vintage red stain. The body has an extra-deep scarf for added comfort during long sessions. The neck is carved to the slim “D” profile of the early ’60s, 12″ radius and a bound Rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets & Trapezoid inlays for effortless bending & comfort.
One of the unique departures from the original 1961 SG is the faux Lyre tailpiece with the vibrato mechanism removed & a stopbar tailpiece in it’s place. Other Trucks mods include no pickguard with black pickup mounting trim rings, Derek Trucks signature truss rod cover.
The headstock is adorned with a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and holly inlay. Equipped with pearloid button vintage-style tuners as well as a PLEK-cut Corian nut for superb resonance and sustain.
To give this SG the iconic PAF tone of the late 50’s & early 60’s, Gibson USA loads the Gibson USA Derek Trucks SG with a pair of the most accurate PAF sounding humbuckers available today. The ‘57 Classics are as true to the sound of the original 1961 SG model as it gets!
